Notorious British mining company Vedanta Resources, through its subsidiary Sesa Sterlite, is trying to push ahead with a billion dollar expansion of its alumina refinery at the foot of India’s Niyamgiri Hills, despite having been refused permission for its planned mine in the Hills.

The Dongria Kondh, who made history when they refused to give their consent to the mine, spoke passionately and unanimously against the refinery expansion at a public hearing last year. But officials ignored their voices and declared it a ‘success’ for the company. Sesa Sterlite could get clearance for the expansion at any time. The Dongria fear their sacred Hills are in danger once again.

How you can help

Please email the Indian government asking them not to allow this expansion.

Dear Minister Javadekar

Will my letter make a difference?
Yes. Time and again, letters from Survival supporters have called governments and organisations to account. Policies have changed and lives have been saved.

Post or email?
We always provide an email address where we can get one, and where we think a message will get through. Sometimes we provide a postal address too. Posting a letter is always the most effective way of making your views known, by far. If you can, please post a letter.
