The Hongana Manyawa’s rainforest on Halmahera island, Indonesia, is being destroyed by nickel mining.

The uncontacted Hongana Manyawa people rely on their rainforest to survive: they get their food, medicine and more from it, and live completely sustainably. Without it, they will be wiped out.

Much of the nickel could end up in electric car batteries for “green” vehicles all over the world. But that could cost the Hongana Manyawa people their rainforest and their lives.

It’s crucial that car companies don’t use nickel from the Hongana Manyawa’s territories, or they risk being complicit in wiping them out.
