Watch the first ever video message from this Hongana Manyawa family in the rainforest of Halmahera, Indonesia. They make it clear that they have not given, and will never give their consent for mining to destroy their rainforest home. They explain that it is their land and they will not allow Eramet’s Weda Bay Nickel mine, or other companies, to take it from them. The Hongana Manyawa are a nomadic, hunter gatherer people and many of them are uncontacted. They are on the run from nickel mining aimed at digging up materials for electric car batteries.

#TribalVoice is a project by Survival International, the global movement for tribal peoples. More than one hundred and fifty million people in over sixty countries live in tribal societies. From the Amazon to the Kalahari, from the jungles of India to the Congo rainforest, Tribal Voice gives them a platform. They experience appalling racism and genocidal violence. Their lands and resources are stolen for profit. Their ways of life are being deliberately and systematically destroyed. Here they speak out about what matters to them; watch, listen, and get involved: https://svlint.org/TribalVoice
